ABOVE THE LINE plays with sex, lies and videotape in this hilarious and sexy farce about the making of a Hollywood movie. This is not your mother’s comedy! ABOVE THE LINE hits below the belt; a sexual fandango with a December/June relationship between JASON STUART and STEWART W. CALHOUN, and a fiery fling between HEATHER MARIE MARSDEN and NICK MENNELL. The comedy gives us a peek at the lying, cheating and stealing that’s goes on during the production of a movie about the Boston Tea Party in Hollywood. Never seen but always present via phone and video, JUNE CLAMAN portrays “Mother” (an ELIZABETH TAYLOR clone), movie star from yesteryear. She complicates the plot in the most intriguing way through the use of multi-media on stage. The play includes spy cams, betrayals and the creation of an accidentally brilliant, Oscar winning musical film!
Playwright SUSAN RUBIN’s play is the second part of a trilogy, which began with her acclaimed award winning play, BITCH. Her plays have received OVATION nominations, won TICKET HOLDER AWARDS and GARLAND AWARDS. She has been profiled in LA WEEKLY and her work has been presented at New York Theatre Workshop, Baltimore Center Stage, The Evidence Room, and LATC among others.
Director MARK BRINGELSON, whose multiple award winning productions include BUNBURY and his collaboration with Rubin on BITCH in its World Premiere at Bootleg in June 2007. He has appeared as an actor in AUSTIN POWERS and THE FISHER KING.
The cast includes an ensemble of actors from Film, TV and Stage Newcomer STEWART W. CALHOUN, currently in THE WRINKLE IN TIME at The South Coast Repertory and last seen with Jon Denton (Desperate Housewives) in HOW CISSY GREW at The El Portal Theatre.
Prolific character actress DENISE DOWSE recently guest-starred on HOUSE, MONK, SAVING GRACE and THE MENTALIST. She is best remembered for being in the original BEVERLY HILLS 90210, and with Jamie Foxx in RAY & REIGN OVER ME opposite ADAM SANDLER.
Actress & Singer/ Songwriter, HEATHER MARIE MARSDEN toured the country in the national company of SWEET CHARITY. Heather appeared recently opposite Colin Hanks & Ann Margaret in LUCKY, among her many film & TV credits.
NICK MENNELL won a Best Actor Award for BITCH and worked at The Guthrie Theater in THE IMPORTANDANCE OF BEING EARNEST. He recurred on the hit TNT drama SOUTHLAND and guest-starred on NUMBERS. The heartthrob also wasin the popular films FRIDAY THE 13th and HALLOWEEN.
And actor & comedian JASON STUART has appeared in over 100 film & TV shows. He recently guest-starred on THE CLOSER, ITS ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILDELPHIA, EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, HOUSE, COMICES UNLEASED (with Oscar Nominee Mo’Nique) and his popular stand-up special MAKING IT TO THE MIDDLE.
