Directs Second Play in Justice Cycle
Cornerstone Theater Company proudly presents Someday, a
world-premiere play written by Julie Marie Myatt and directed by
Artistic Director Michael John Garcés. Someday is the second major
production in the company’s Justice Cycle, a three-year series of
plays exploring themes of justice, including illegal immigration,
reproductive rights, criminal justice and the environment.
Someday will run May 29 – June 22, 2008 at the Bootleg
Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
Who can afford to have children, and who can’t? Who can afford to
not have children, and who can’t? Does “choice” ultimately depend
upon how much money is in the bank? Created in collaboration with
disabled women, sperm donors, egg donors, teen mothers,
surrogates, nontraditional families, and many others, Someday
reaches beyond polarized abortion debates to explore reproductive
issues and rights through the lens of economic privilege.
Courageous, hilarious, and poignant journeys result as people in
Los Angeles attempt to control the creation of human life within
the complicated bounds of biological, technological, and financial
resources.
Community partners for Someday include the Feminist Majority
Foundation, National Organization for Women -- Hollywood Chapter,
South Asian Network, Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, and
Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project. As with all of
Cornerstone’s community-collaborative productions, the play will
be performed by a cast of both professional actors and community
participants. Collaborating artists include Scenic Designer Lynn
Jeffries and Costume Designer Megan Healy.
Someday will run May 29-June 22, 2008. Performances will take
place on Thursdays & Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm & 8pm, and
Sundays at 3pm, at the Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Blvd., Los
Angeles 90057. Free street parking is available. All tickets are
$20, with the exception of select Pay-What-You-Can performances.
